Summary

The proper audio input is selected, and the mic has been tested to work outside of IX-SOFT, but the device communicating with IX-SOFT cannot hear it.

Cause

It is possible that a local antivirus or firewall is preventing the software from accessing it.

Solution

An AV/firewall can tag IX-SOFT as being a potential threat via its Host Intrusion Prevention shields. These shields are designed to keep track of application activities in the system and regulates the activity of applications depending on their listed status. This is to prevent malicious software from accessing the microphone of the PC without the user’s knowledge.

The PC admin may have to manually find which shield is blocking IX-SOFT if it is not logged as a direct threat in any of the active scans or policies. They will need to locate the instances of IX-SOFT inside the Application Rights list (there may be multiple) and manually assign system access.

This is one possible way to address this issue, and solutions will vary by AV/firewall applications.

Volume Settings

The IX Series has multiple different settings for a station’s volume. The most common settings are:

Handset Transmit

The transmit volume using a handset while in communication or paging.

Handset Receive

The receive volume using a handset while communicating.

This value sets the ringback tone volume.

Hands-Free Transmit

The transmit volume while communicating and paging in hands-free mode.

Hands-Free Receive

The receive volume while communicating in hands-free mode.

This value sets the ringback tone volume.

Headset Jack Transmit

The transmit volume while using a device plugged into the headset jack.

Headset Jack Receive

The receive volume while using a device plugged into the headset jack.

Transmit

The transmit volume during communication and while being monitored.

Receive

The receiving volume during communication.

For IX-DV, IX-DVF(-*), and IX-SSA(-*), “Receive” is the setting of the receive volume while communicating. For other stations, “Receive” is the setting of the receive volume while communicating and paging. This value also sets the ringback tone volume.

Ringtone

The volume for the ringtone and paging tone of a station.

Paging

The volume of an incoming page for IX-DV, IX-DVF(-*), and IX-SSA(-*) stations.

Cause

A pop-up message stating the Station Search has failed occurs when a program on the PC is already using UDP Port 8700. This is mostly caused by a service called Conmon_cmm_service.exe which belongs to a program called “Dante Control and Monitoring”.  If there is another program using this port the following steps will need to be taken to identify and stop the process.

Solution

  1. Open Windows Powershell.
  2. Type netstat -ano > netstat.txt
  3. Type get-process > process.txt
  4. Navigate to C:Users%username% to retrieve the two files.
  5. Open the netstat.txt in a text editor and search for which process is using port UPD 8700 and record the PID (process ID).
  6. Open the process.txt file and search for the PID found in the previous step.
  7. In Windows Powershell type stop-process {PID}.
Where {PID} is the process ID. Ex. Stop-process 6745

Summary

The System Log can be used to track multiple things, such as:

  • Reboots
  • Receiving and placing calls
  • Accessing the Web GUI
  • Door release
  • Firmware upgrades
  • Monitoring other stations
  • NTP updates
  • Error tracking
To download a station system log from an IX Series station both the PC retrieving the log and the IX Series station will need to be on the same logical network. You will also need the administrator ID and password of each station to access its Web GUI.

Step 1 – Accessing the Web GUI

Using a web browser (IE8+ preferred), browse to the unit by typing “https://IPAddress/webset.cgi?login”. Once the webpage has loaded you will need to bypass the security certificate warning and continue to the login webpage.

Security certificate error image

Step 2 – Finding the System Log

Select a language option and enter the Administrator ID and Password for the IX Series station, click Login. Using the sidebar menu, navigate to Maintenance and click “System Log”. Selecting this will bring you to the download page.

Step 3 – Downloading the System Log

Click Download under the System Log heading.

Navigate to the download folder to find the IX Series station downloaded System Log.

Each station will save the System Log as systemlog.txt, for ease of navigation, rename each system log after downloading it

Summary

Support Tool does not allow the use of special characters when creating a password (!, @, #, $, etc), and will ignore any attempts to use them.

“p@$$word123!?”  would be saved as “pword123”.

Solution

When attempting to use a password with special characters, Support Tool will ignore these keystrokes and only accept alphanumeric entries. The programmer may not notice the special characters were not accepted when looking at the keyboard and not the screen while entering the password.

Troubleshooting Tip: If the assumed password is “p@$$word123!?”, try using “pword123” in its place. Chances are all non-special characters used were entered and saved as the password.

Summary

There are three scenarios. (1) A programmed and functioning IX-MV or IX-MV7-* has its screen suddenly freeze or become unnavigable which is resolved with a manual power cycle. (2) An IX-MV or IX-MV7-* freezes immediately when deployed on the network, before any functionality can be tested. This is not often the case if the station is removed from the network and placed in a bench test scenario. (3) An IX-MV or IX-MV7-* appears to constantly power cycling itself without being prompted.

Cause

Possible causes for these three scenarios. (1) This uncommon issue can happen with extreme or continued improper use of the station and its primary functions. For example, the user pressing the door release button repeatedly to release the door can cause the screen to freeze. Reviewing how to properly use the product can typically resolve these issues. Using this example, only pressing the door release button a single time to unlock the door can help avoid freezing the screen.

For scenario (2) and (3) both can be caused of improper network settings, or external interference by other network devices. For example, an NTP server is set for a station but that server is unreachable. The station may power cycle itself to try and refresh the connection attempt. Other similar issues include IP conflicts, unidentified or unwanted requests from VMS servers, and others.

Solution

To better troubleshoot these scenarios, the station’s log can be downloaded for review. This log will show basic use, functions, and errors. Some errors, like an unreachable NTP or DNS server, will be clearly displayed in the text. Other errors are more generic, for example “Communication Error”, which commonly means the station is unable to establish a network connection to the device of which it is trying to communicate. “Watchdog Error” is commonly seen in situations where an unwanted and unknown IP camera, NVR, or VMS server is trying to interact with the station. A scan of the network by that product looking for ONVIF devices can then send a request to the station. If this error is found in the logs, the source of that request must either be configured not to communicate to the station, or the station needs to be removed from the environment, for example, places on its own VLAN.
